About The Designer

GILLES CAFFIER’s pieces are creatively chaotic, embodying a rare tone of understated extravagance.

As an artist, he is passionate yet discreet. He understands that an artist’s freedom is his greatest luxury, and he translates this into his free-moving silhouettes and patterns.

GILLES CAFFIER’s creations are humanistic. They are born from a unique marriage of hand-crafted creativity and technology, while interpreting the muses of our natural world. His lines are pure, sensual and sometimes unexpected. He subverts the expected rules of materials, exploiting contrasts and diversions. Leather becomes metal, rough surfaces grow soft, and minimalism evolves into exuberance.

Each piece handmade and is the result of meticulous work, mixing long-established knowhow and renewed curiosity and exploration. Many of his collections are limited editions.

Gilles has had a remarkable history. After studying textile and fashion design in his birthplace, France, he started his career in the Parisian couture, with Yves Saint Laurent and Paco Rabanne among his clients. By the time he turned 22, Giles had already relocated to Tokyo as an international fashion school art director. A few years later, he opened his design studio.

In 1993, he shifted his focus to interior design and decoration, and began making his own creations. Since then, he has built a lab of artisans in divergent fields who are continually working, evaluating, collaborating and experimenting. CAFFIER has also applied his creativity to designing furniture, lighting, and accessories for interior designers and lifestyle boutiques.

In 1993, he began to concentrate his energy on interior design and decoration. He also started producing his own work. Since then, he has created a lab of 50 artisans in various fields who are all continually working, evaluating, collaborating, and experimenting.

Currently, Gilles creates and produces a collection of furniture, lighting, and accessories for interior designer and lifestyle boutiques. In 1996, his first collection was featured at Joseph in London. He consistently attracts the attention of design and interior visionaries, as well as the international press.

Living abroad since he was 22 has given GILLES CAFFIER a unique international vision. He retains the luxury of remaining open to all aspects of design and visual expression through the decorative arts.

His collections are now featured in 25 countries. His clientele share the same demands: creativity and authenticity.

He has enticed buyers on 5 continents, including design and interior boutiques, galleries, antique showrooms, and concept stores. His loyal customers hail from the fashion industry, such as Brown’s in London, 10 Corso Como in Milan, and The Link in Singapore. His creations may also be found in international departments stores like Au Bon Marche in Paris, Harrods in London, and Neiman Marcus in the US.

Gilles’s work also often makes an appearance in influential furniture showrooms, such as B&B ITALIA and Minotti. Visionary interior designers have selected his pieces for their most sophisticated projects.

Among Gilles’s admirers are florists, who see a connection between his elaborate textures and the natural elements that form the tools of their trade. They are inspired by mixing his materials of wood, marble, leather, hematite, and pierced earthenware with their favorite floral elements. Their talent is often elevated by using his votives and vases. Specialists like Trend in Geneva, Vertumne in Paris, and TEA ROSE in Milan utilize a variety of Gilles’s objects in their work.

Gilles also works with influential hotels and restaurants. He has created accessories for Alain Ducasse’s SPOON restaurants, Parrot Cay Hotel-Turks and Caicos, Metropolitan Hotel-London, The Prince Hotel-Melbourne, and Cheval Blanc Hotel-Courchevel. The new Mandarin Oriental in Paris has selected many of Gilles limited edition works for its suites.
